Les principes de base de l'agriculture biologique

Agriculture intensified its activity these last decades to face ever growing demands. But the means of production carried out and the development of new technologies only met urgent needs without considering the impact it may have on the Environment. We now know that intensive agriculture; great consumer of fertilizers, pesticides, weedkillers and water; contaminates the air, the soil, water and has repercussions on our health.

The basis of organic agriculture can be summed up by this sentence: "The soil is a living environment, one has to nourish the soil to nourish the plant". Hence organic agriculture centre around four axis :

Preserve the quality of water :

  • The use of synthesis chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers...) is strictly prohibited.

Preserve and improve the fertility of the soil :

  • Preserve, renew and improve the humus rate to prevent the destruction, and erosion of the soil.

Reduce any risk of pollution :

  • Reduce nitrate as nitrogen contribution is limited and has an organic nature.
  • Encourage an agriculture that is able to produce more energy than it consumes.
  • Avoid waste of unsustainable fossil fuel.
  • Develop an agriculture that won't pollute directly or indirectly the biosphere.

Respect and favour biodiversity :

  • Use the most adapted vegetable variety to the complex "climate- soil- season".
  • Use only organic (mechanism of living being) and ecological (interaction of these beings with their milieu) resources in order to resolve parasitism problems.
